Abstract:In order to improve the magnetic field regulation capability ofpermanentmagnet(PM) machines,a novel hybrid excitation synchronous machine(HESM) is proposed.Becausethe rotor has both the permanent magnet pole and the iron pole,the magnetic circuit shows a typical three-dimensional(3D) feature.So it is difficult to calculate the inductanceby directly using analytical method.This paper presents an equivalent analytical methodbased on the magnetic circuit characteristics of the HESM.Therefore,the complicated 3Dmagnetic circuitHESMis equivalent to three 2D magnetic circuit machines.To improve the efficiency of the electromagnetic design and performance analysis,a mathematical model for the HESM and an expression of the inductance is established.A 10 kW prototype machine is analyzed with the finite element method,then fabricated and tested.Experimental results agree well with the equivalent analysis.Both the mathematical model and the equivalent analytical method are proved to be valid,which provide a reference for the design and optimization of the HESM.
