Broken Rotor Bar Fault Diagnosis in Inverter-Fed Induction Motors Using the Rectification Technology

Abstract:The stator current signal of the inverter-fed induction motor (IM) is easily affected by noises from the switching process of electric power electronic devices and electromagnetic interference. Additionally, the existing demodulation methods have the problem of a large amount of calculation. Therefore, this paper proposes a broken rotor bar (BRB) fault diagnosis method in IMs using the rectified supply-side current. First, an analytical expression for the supply-side current is established by the switching function and modulation theory. Secondly, the rectification technology is used to process the supply-side current. It is shown that the spectrum of the rectified supply side current can convert the traditional sideband frequency to BRB fault characteristic frequency. Thus, the influence of the fundamental frequency is effectively suppressed, and the BRB fault diagnosis in IMs under the condition of light load or no-load is realized. Finally, the proposed method is verified by the current data of the power supply side of the inverter-fed IM under different load conditions. The results demonstrate that the proposed method can effectively identify the BRB fault characteristic frequency from no-load condition to high load condition with high reliability, requires less computation requirements, and is easy to implement.
