Abstract:The accurate thermal analysis of in-wheel motor is quite important to its safety operation and performance improvement. According to the structure of in-wheel motor used in electric vehicles, the equivalent thermal network model and the 3D finite element model were established in this paper. The calculating program was written based on the equivalent thermal network method. The steady temperatures of thermal network nodes at rated operation state were calculated. Moreover, the steady temperature field distribution and the transient temperature-rising curve of in-wheel motor at rated operation state were calculated based on the finite element method. With measuring the dynamic temperature change of in-wheel motor, the calculating results were compared with the experimental data. The validity of the two models were verified. The results also show that the two methods are adaptable and compatible to calculate the temperature field of motor.
