Operating Principle and Electromagnetic Characteristic Analysis for Large-Small Pole Solid-Rotor Induction Motor with Toroidal Windings

Abstract:In order to widen the speed range of the induction motor, a large-small pole solid-rotor induction motor with toroidal winding (LSP-TWSRIM) is proposed herein. The structure of LSP-TWSRIM is introduced, its operating principle is studied, and its design parameters are given. A two-dimensional finite element model was established and the electromagnetic characteristics of LSP-TWSRIM (including stator current, air gap flux density, speed and torque) under different working conditions were analyzed. An LSP-TWSRIM prototype was designed and manufactured, and experiments were carried out. The comparison between simulation and experimental results proved the correct operating principle and electromagnetic characteristics of LSP-TWSRIM.
