For overcoming the problem that the air-gap magnetic field of permanent magnet synchronous machine(PMSM) is difficulty to adjust, a novel variable-flux PMSM with rotating magnetic pole is proposed in this paper, of which the flux weakening principle of this machine was deeply analyzed. The dynamic analysis of the mechanical device with variable flux was carried out by virtual prototype technology, and the relationship between the deformation of spring and rotation angle of gear with the speed was obtained. The back-EMF, air-gap flux density, winding flux linkage and flux regulation characteristics of PMs at the different rotation angle were evaluated by finite element analysis (FEA). The simulation results show that rotating angle range of the gear is 0-45 degrees under the centrifugal force by designing a reasonable mechanical device with variable flux, and the proposed machine has excellent flux weakening ability. Some experiments of the manufactured prototype machine are performed to validate the theory analysis.
