Abstract:A novel method of on-line rejuvenation for water trees in service cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) cables is presented,the inhibition effect and the rejuvenation mechanism are also discussed.A 30-day accelerated water tree aging experiment was done on the new samples,the prior rejuvenation samples and the on-line rejuvenation samples.After that,a microscope was used to observe the morphology of water trees and measure the length of the water trees.By differentially scanning calorimetry (DSC),the insulation degradation degree of the three group samples was analyzed.Meanwhile,the changes of micromorphology and chemical structure in water-tree areas were observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy disperse spectroscopy (EDS).The results show that the on-line rejuvenation method can effectively inhibit the propagation of water trees.Under the effect of electric field,the siloxane and water molecules are driven to the high electric field areas (such as void,water tree area,etc.) for reaction,which eliminates the deterioration in the insulation and generates gel particles to fill the areas,relieving the insulation degradation to some degree.
