Suppression Method of Common-Mode Voltage for Three-Level Active Neutral-Point-Clamped Inverter Based on Selective Harmonics Elimination PWM

Abstract:In the inverter system with motor load, the output common-mode voltage (CMV) of inverter can cause damage to motor stator insulation, reduce bearing life, and bring electromagnetic interference problem. Three-phase three-level active neutral-point-clamped (3L-ANPC) inverter is taken as the research object. The output waveforms of three-phase selective harmonics elimination PWM (SHEPWM) can be regarded as the switching-state vectors, which have different effects on the CMV and the neutral-point potential (NP). The characteristic of self-balancing for the NP under SHEPWM is studied. An improved SHEPWM for 3L-ANPC inverter is proposed in this paper. The control strategy can effectively reduce the output CMV of inverter while eliminating the line-to-line voltage harmonics and maintaining the NP self-balancing. Simulation and experimental platforms of 3L-ANPC inverter are constructed. Experimental results validate the proposed control strategy.
