A limited angle reluctance motor(LARM) was introduced in this paper,and its major structure and operation principle were described.For its unique asymmetrical structure,it must be analyzed with 3-D finite element electromagnetic simulation.Through the simulation,the curved surfaces of flux linkage,inductance and torque with the change of current and rotor angle were obtained,the related database was established and the static characteristics were analyzed in detail.The mathematic model was deduced according to nonlinear magnetic parameter method.Magnetization curve data ψ(i,θ)was transformed into i(θ,ψ)which was substituted into the model.Then the voltage balance equation and mechanical movement equation were solved by the fourth order Runge-Kutta method and finite element method.The curves of coil current,torque and rotor angle were obtained.And the experiments of the static torque and dynamic characteristics were also carried out.The comparison of simulation and experiment proves the solution′s accuracy.
