Abstract:Electromagnetically induced acoustic emission (EMAE) technique is a new nondestructive testing (NDT). It does nondestructive detection with the effect of dynamic electromagnetic loading to generate acoustic emission waves from the defect in the metal plate. The principle and implementation procedure of the EMAE is deeply analyzed in this paper. The electromagnetic loading equipment is designed and EMAE experiment of defect detection is achieved on the aluminium specimen. The experimental signal was analyzed by using fast Fourier transform (FFT). It researches the change patterns of EMAE signal with the different electromagnetic loading conditions, such as peak pulse current, the duration of the pulse current, loading location and loading history. The experimental results lay a good foundation for the engineering application of EMAE.
