Abstract:Segmented switched reluctance machines, with short path of magnetic flux which reduced iron losses, segment cores embedded in rotor block to form columned rotor which decreased wind or oil resistance in high speed, or isolated components magnetically, electrically and mechanically which enhanced reliability and fault tolerance greatly, have nice performances because of the segmented stator or rotor. In this paper the existing segmented SRMs are reviewed based on the analysis of their constructions and magnetic paths. Five novel segmented SRMs are bipolar SRM with segmental rotors, toroidal-windings SRM with segmental rotors, SRM with C-shaped segmental stators, SRM with E-shaped segmental stators and axial-radial air gap SRM with segmental stators. The structures and the basic working principles of these five novel segmented SRMs are introduced and the advantages and disadvantages of them are analyzed. Those will provide a useful reference for segmented SRM’ s researches and applications.
