Abstract  Arc discharge time of intrinsically safe circuits obeys normal distribution. However, tests revealed that there are two different normal distribution sketches at different positions. Separate track of tungsten wires in cadmium groove was derived, and the peak value of breaking time of tungsten wires was obtained according to its actual separate velocity. The calculation results account for that the larger time distribution is corresponding to the breaking with cadmium edge while the smaller time distribution is corresponding to that with cadmium groove. At last the criterion of arc discharge time distribution was established.
