Droop Control Strategy of Wind Power Microgrid System without Energy Storage Device

Abstract  Droop control is used when microgrid including distributed wind power generation system operates in island mode. Duo to the intermittency of wind energy, output power of the inverter with droop control in microgrid is not equal to the generation power. So energy storage devices such as the battery are needed to balance the power and keep the DC bus voltage constant. An improved droop control strategy is proposed to reduce the capacity of the energy storage device. A series of steps are carried out to adjust the output power and match the generation power, including the measurement of DC bus voltage, translation of the droop control characteristic curve and change of droop control operating point. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the improved droop control strategy.
