Torque Calculation of Fifteen-Phase Induction Motor with Different Sets of Winding Derated Operation

Abstract:The reliability of the propulsion system is directly related to the performance of load matching for multi-phase induction motor with different sets of winding operation. In this paper, a fifteen-phase induction motor with different sets of five-phase winding derated operation is investigated. First, the stator and rotor parameters are recalculated. Then the magnetic reactance considering the change of magnetic circuit saturation is recalculated by a distributed magnetic circuit approach. Variable parameter equivalent circuit of fifteen-phase induction motor with different sets of winding operation is established. The maximum output torque matched with propeller load can be predicted for the fifteen-phase induction motor with different sets of five-phase winding derated operation. The output torque of a prototype fifteen-phase induction motor are measured by a derated test with different sets of five-phase winding out of service. The analytically predicted results are compared with the measured results, where good agreements are achieved.
