Voltage Regulation Technology of Delta-Connected 12-Pulse Auto-Transformer Rectifier

Abstract:This paper studied on voltage regulation technology of 12-pulse auto-transformer rectifier unit (ATRU), and presented a delta-connected structure that achieved a wide range of ATRU output voltage. By using middle taps in primary winding and setting the number of winding precisely, auto-transformer outputs two groups of three-phase voltage vector with 30° phase difference. These two three-phase voltages converted into DC voltage through two rectifier bridges. ATRU output voltage could be regulated by changing the number and configuration of auto-transformer winding. In this paper, the turn ratio of winding was deduced and expressed by voltage ratio of auto-transformer. Further, the expressions of input current, auto-transformer kilovoltampere rating were calculated and validated by simulations. The changes of kilovolt ampere rating with different voltage ratios are analyzed. The experiment of a principle prototype was carried out to verify the correctness of the design analysis.
