Effect of Temperature Change Mode on Condition Assessment of Oil-Paper Insulation Based on Frequency-Domain Dielectric Spectroscopy Method

Abstract:In order to better apply frequency-domain dielectric spectroscopy (FDS) in non- destructive diagnosis of oil-paper insulation condition of transformer, the influence of temperature change mode on establishing assessment database of oil-paper insulation condition of transformer was investigated. FDS of oil-paper insulation at various temperatures was measured by a three-electrode measuring system in the cooling and heating experiments. Based on the FDS properties of oil-paper insulation at different testing temperatures and different temperature change modes, the relationships of quantitative assessment moisture content and conductivity of oil impregnated paper were introduced, and then the influences of testing temperature and temperature change mode on quantitative assessment results of oil-paper insulation condition were studied. It demonstrates that testing temperature and temperature change mode have great impacts on the FDS properties of oil-paper insulation. Low frequency range of FDS of oil-paper insulation depends heavily on temperature change mode. If frequency-domain dielectric spectroscopy method is used to establish the assessment database of oil-paper insulation condition of transformer, both appropriate testing temperature and suitable temperature change mode should be taken into account. This study is also a reference to select proper temperature change mode in the temperature-varying experiment at laboratory.
