Abstract:At present, inductive pulsed-power supplies have been paid a good deal of attention by researchers due to the advantages of the high energy storage density and relatively easy to implement. Meat grinder and XRAM are two kinds of basic topology units for inductive pulsed-power supplies. XRAM topology, i.e. multiple inductors are firstly charged in series and then discharged in parallel, has structurally strong expansibility and easy to implement modularity. This paper proposes a novel XRAM circuit with strongly coupled inductors, which are constituted by multiple Air-core Flat Spirals of Strip Coils (AFSSC) laminated on each other. Because of the strong coupling effect between the inductive coils, it’s smaller than the original structure under the same energy storage. Theoretical analysis and preliminary test show the electrical performance of the circuit won’t be degraded due to the strong coupling effect between inductors. Lastly, the conceptual design of 100 kilojoules module by using the XRAM topology with strongly coupled inductors is discussed, and its advantages are highlighted by calculating the energy density.
