Abstract:This paper proposes a novel wide speed-range driving system based on hybrid excitation synchronous motor(HESM) due to its properties of wide speed range operation and low speed high torque. According to the structural characteristics of HESM, a stage space vector pulse width modulation(SVPWM) control method, which distributes the whole speed range into two sub-regions and employs different current regulating strategies in different sub-regions, has been adopted. In the low-middle speed range the electromagnetic torque can be improved by increasing the exciting current for flux strengthening; in the high speed range, speed is regulated by adjusting both the exciting current and the d-axis current for flux weakening while keeping the q-axis component of the back EMF invariable. With the proposed control methods, the load capability in the low speed region is improved effectively and operation speed range becomes much wider. By comparing the experimental results with and without the exciting current, the effectiveness of the proposed HESM driving system and its control methods are verified.
