Three-Level H-Bridge Cascade Type Multi-Level Inverter

Abstract:Cascade type multi-level inverter is adopted to high power AC drives due to small harmonic components of the output voltage and facilitating greater modularity. In this paper, the problems which are interrelated with the topology and control method of three-level H-bridge cascade type multi-level inverter with clamped diode are investigated in detail. The differences of cascaded number decide different control methods. Carrier modulation scheme based on cascaded carriers and phased-shifted consideration are presented. Carrier phase opposition disposition pulse width modulation is used in three-level legs, while carrier phase shift pulse width modulation is used both in three-level legs and H-bridges. According to the cascaded number, different carrier phase shift angles are applied in H-bridges. Finally the PSIM emulation results validate this control method, and the output voltage harmonics are analyzed.
