Abstract  Large generators are affected by operating conditions and environment during operation, and stator insulation is prone to damage leading to generator failure. As a hotspot of research for many years, stator insulation life prediction is an important method to improve the stability of generator operation. This paper summarizes the current methods of insulation life prediction, and classifies the insulation prediction methods into regression analysis based prediction, intelligent algorithm based prediction and data acquisition based prediction. The pros and cons of the three methods under various application conditions are analyzed. Finally, the problems existing in the current research and the future research trends of insulation prediction are proposed.
