Abstract  In this paper, the finite element method is applied to evaluate the electromagnetic field of the human body exposed to the high-power catenary-free power supply urban rail transit vehicle to detect whether the safety value of electromagnetic exposure of human body is lower than that of the catenary-free power supply urban rail transit vehicles. Taking a 500kW catenary-free power supply urban rail transit vehicle as an example, the magnetic flux leakage in the vehicle was calculated by numerical simulation, and the human body induced electromagnetic field and specific absorption rate (SAR) of a pacemaker in the vehicle were calculated. The evaluation and calculation results were compared with the limits specified in the international commission on non-ionizing radiation protection (ICNIRP). The results show that the internal electric field of the human body is low, but a high electric field is induced on the body surface, and the tissue SAR value equipped with pacemaker is far below the limit of 2W/kg. When the human body is standing above the ferry board, the SAR value at the ankle is the highest and very close to the local SAR limit. These results have played a positive role in the safe application of catenary-free power supply technology in the field of rail transit.
