Sensorless Control of PMSM in All Speed Range Based on Extended State Observer for Load Toque Compensation

Abstract  Aimto improve the performance of sensorless control of permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) in all speed range, a hybrid rotor position estimation strategy with load torque compensation by extended state observer (ESO) is proposed. A modified symmetrical voltage pulses injection on the estimated direct-axis is adopted in the low speed region, and a sliding mode observer (SMO) using integral sliding surface is proposed. What’s more, the hysteresis smooth switching strategy is designed to make sure that only one of two estimation strategies is adopted for closed-loop control. Meanwhile, in order to improve the anti-disturbance ability of sensorless control, an ESO is designed for load torque estimation and compensation. Experimental results show that the proposed hybrid position estimation strategy achieves excellent performance under different loads and speeds, and smooth transition. Moreover, adding and removing step rated torque in all speed range, the ESO can estimate load torque accurately and compensate rapidly, thus speed fluctuation is reduced and the anti-disturbance performance is enhanced.
