Abstract  In order to better coordinate and control the energy transmission between AC-DC hybrid microgrids, a novel hybrid microgrid energy router is proposed. The energy router mathematical model is computed, the phase or diagram on different operational mode in cascaded rectifier stage is analyzed and the restrictive conditions on hybrid work modes is deduced. For the unified management and harmonization of the energy transferred by energy router in AC-DC hybrid microgrids, the control strategy is presented to implement seamlessly switch among AC-DC, DC-DC and DC-AC operational modes in each module of cascaded H-bridge rectifier stage. In addition, power electronic converters are reduced in microgrids to increase the energy transmission efficiency between AC-DC microgrids. Finally, the simulations and prototype demonstrate the practicability of the AC-DC hybrid microgrid energy router as well as the validity of the control strategy on each operational mode.
