Abstract  A current-fed resonant plasma source is proposed for the atmospheric-pressure dielectric-barrier-discharge surface treatment. The energy transfer time in each period is compressed over the full power range by constructing a parallel-series resonant tank, which improves the surface treatment effects at different powers. A method for judging the energy compression stability over the full power range is also developed. And then, by adding bypass auxiliary capacitors in the inverter, the current bypass channels are established. Hence, the power device zero-voltage-switching and the inverter high- efficiency operation were achieved. The auxiliary capacitance selection principle is derived. Finally, a 350W prototype was built. The experimental results verified the accuracy of theoretical analysis. It is shown that the proposed resonant plasma source is an effective solution for the surface treatment.
