Impacts of Reclosing Time on Dynamic Security Region and a Practical Algorithm for Optimal Reclosing Time

Abstract  Automatic reclosing has great significance for improving stability and reliability of power systems. In this paper, the impacts of reclosing time after short-circuits on the dynamic security region (DSR) are studied. Through a lot of simulations, several experiential laws are found when the reclosing time changes, such as parallelism among DSR boundaries, the ultimate limit, smoothness and saturation of measure curve of DSR boundaries. In addition, the universality of the optimal reclosing time window is verified. Setting reclosing time within the window can significantly promote power transfer limit of transmission lines under transient stability constraints. A practical and fast calculation method of optimal reclosing time is presented. The simulation on the 10-generator, 39-bus New-England System verifies the correctness and effectiveness of the above conclusions. This research extends the application scope of DSR theory.
