Abstract:In the paper, a topology of an active voltage quality regulator (AVQR) with variable DC-link voltage is proposed in which a diode-rectifier is replaced by a thyristor-rectifier. The principle and control strategy of the AVQR are presented subsequently. The validity and effectiveness of the proposed topology and control algorithm are verified by simulation and experimental results. In an undervoltage case, under the same supply voltage and load conditions, the efficiency increases 7.0% from 89.1% of uncontrolled dc-link voltage to 96.1% of variable DC-link voltage on a 2kVA prototype, and the efficiency increases more significantly in an overvoltage case.
