Abstract:Flashover of contaminated insulators along the transmission line took place frequently, which threats the safe operation of power system. Before flashover of contaminated insulators happens, the intensity of discharge pulse from their surface increases quickly, so does the ultraviolet light. Therefore, the intensity alteration in the specific range of UV wavelength can be monitored to reflect the contamination level of insulators. This paper introduces the theory of monitoring the discharge intensity of insulators by use of “solar-blind” UV sensor. Moreover, it shows the layout and picture in field of UV on-line monitoring system. The contamination level of insulator is correlated with the temperature, humidity and the working time besides the discharge intensity. In order to analyze the comprehensive effects of different factors, fuzzy synthesis evaluation method is applied to build an estimated model and an intelligent synthesis assessment system. The practical application in transmission line of Bishan city lasted half a year, and the analysis data demonstrated that the system has high reliability and fast response speed with low cost. Therefore, it is possible for wide application in late future.
