Array Integrated Magnetic Inductance with Multi-Degree-of-Freedom Used for Multiphase VRM

Abstract:Integrated inductance affects multiphase voltage regulator module (VRM) steady-state and dynamic characteristics. Reasonable coupling can enhance the output transient response of VRM and reduce the steady-state ripple of each channel. The equivalent steady-state and transient inductances of multiphase VRM coupling inductance were deduced by establishing the circuit equation, then the coupling degree design criteria of multiphase VRM were obtained. This paper proposed the array integrated magnetic using a small inductance unit. Through analyzing the inductance integration principle, the unit position topology and unit composite structure topology of array integrated magnetic were deduced, and the relationship of the self-induction mutual-inductance unit turns ratio, resistance ratio and inductance coupling degree was derived. Compared with coupling range, the proposed array integrated inductance coupling is exactly in accordance with the design criteria. Using design criteria for four-phase array integrated magnetic, the experimental prototype test results verify the design criteria. The experimental prototype was applied into four-phase VRM. The results show that the array type integrated magnetic VRM has well steady-state and dynamic characteristics, which verifies the proposed array type integrated inductance.
