Abstract Calculation of synchronous reactance, eddy current distribution and research of stator temperature are the important research subjects for large scale air cooled turbo-generator. In this paper, a 150MW air cooled turbo-generator is taken as an example. According to electromagnetic theory, electromagnetic mathematical model and solved region are given firstly. Unsaturated synchronous reactance is calculated for turbo-generator with inequality strands and sections of upper and bottom windings using numerical methods under different loads. It is researched that different structures have an influence on parameter. Secondly, mathematical model and solution method of eddy field are determined and research eddy current distribution of stator windings under different structures and loads. Lastly, mathematical model of temperature is established. Temperature distribution for two structures of stator windings under different loads is calculated by the way of heat transfer theory.
