Abstract An exciter field current amplifier based on H bridge topology circuit is proposed. This simple circuit which needs only two IGBTs can achieve a smaller size and lower cost. Its math model and simulation model are built in the paper, and both the simulation and experimental results show that this exciter field current amplifier is of fast dynamic performance and needs lower DC source current. Because of its suitable PWM duty rate which is between 0.5 to 0.8 and the faster discharging speed, the H bridge topology circuit is superior to the Buck circuit which has lower discharging speed and smaller duty rate in some specific working situation.
