An Overview of Electric-Filed Coupling Wireless Power Transfer Technology

Abstract：In recent years, with the rapid development of electric-filed coupling wireless power transfer (EC-WPT) technology, moreover the transmission power and distance have been greatly improved. In this paper, the concept of EC-WPT technology in various kinds of literatures is summarized, and the basic working principle of the EC-WPT system is analyzed. Focusing on theoretical researches, the works based on system modelling, capacitive coupler, high-frequency converter, resonant network, control method, and power & signal parallel transmission are expounded. Meanwhile, this paper analyses the EC-WPT applications about consumer electronics, implantable devices, industrial manufacturing, electric vehicle, and underwater devices. The future research directions of EC-WPT technology are described and discussed from five aspects: single-capacitor wireless power transfer, power transmission across metal barrier, loss model of the capacitive coupler, hybrid WPT system, and safety issues.
