Abstract:The objective of this paper is to investigate the feasibility of the doubly salient electromagnetic generators (DSEGs) with multiple rotor poles for direct driven wind turbine and compare the performance between the new direct driven DSEG and the conventional (6k)/(4k)-pole DSEG. Stator pole and rotor pole combinations of the new generator are presented and the ratios of the stator pole width to the stator pole distance are deduced. 2-D finite element simulation models for DSEG were also developed and verified by a prototype generator. The simulation results show the rationality of new structures and indicate that the new DSEGs have many attractive advantages over the conventional (6k)/(4k)-pole DSEG, such as high power density, high efficiency and low cogging torque.
