Abstract:An analysis of a three-phase rectifier with near-sinusoidal input currents (RNSIC) and LC filters connected on the ac side is presented in this paper. According to the various end moments of the capacitor charging current, this rectifier is classified to three different operation modes: small current mode, medium current mode and large current mode. The operation principle of this rectifier in the small current mode is analyzed in detail. Based on the topology evolvement, the coherence between the studied rectifier and the typical RNSIC with capacitors connected on the dc side is demonstrated. Moreover, the characteristic of the rectifier is discussed and a practical design method of the passive components is proposed under various working modes, achieving the sinusoidal input current and near unity displacement factor. The results obtained from three 250W prototype systems are shown to confirm the validity of the analysis.
