Abstract:In this paper, a new chaotic space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) scheme is proposed and implemented to reduce the peaky switching harmonics of inverter output voltages in vector controlled induction motor drives. The key is to design a chaotic frequency modulator, namely the chaotically frequency-modulated frequency modulator (CFFM) to modulate the switching frequency of SVPWM. Compared with the conventional fixed-frequency SVPWM (FF-SVPWM) and randomly frequency-modulated SVPWM (RFM-SVPWM), the CFFM-SVPWM not only suppresses the peaky switching harmonics, but also avoids the occurrence of mechanical resonance in induction motor drives. Besides, the vector controlled induction motor drives using CFFM-SVPWM can still provide good operating performance. Both simulation and experimental results are given to support the validity.
