Abstract:Micro-arc oxidation (MAO) is a new method of surface modification for valve metals and their alloys. Compared with DC and sinusoidal AC powers, the quality of the coating is much better when using the pulse power. A power source whose frequency, duty cycle and amplitude can be changed in some extent based on DSP is set up for pulsed MAO. The load characteristic of the MAO system is analyzed. The operation modes of the circuit generating different waveforms are discussed. The results of the treatment on magnesium alloy (AZ91D) with this power source verify the validity of the method.
