Abstract:This paper makes the research to reducing switching losses for the three-level neutral point clamped (NPC) inverter. A novel discontinuous space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) strategy is proposed to no switching at position of the maximum current of the unity power factor load. In addition, base on the novel discontinuous SVPWM, a hysteresis controller is applied to balance the neutral point voltage by switching the vector sequence mode. The simulation and experimental results show the feasibility and effectiveness of the novel modulation strategy.
