Abstract:The collision of electromagnetic relay contacts and corresponding bounce have a strong influence on relay reliability and electrical life. However, in traditional dynamic characteristic calculations, the bounce is usually neglected or simplified. In this paper, a dynamic reaction calculation model of the relay that considers the bounce is presented. Dynamic reaction characteristics are obtained by establishing kinetic equations of armature iron and every reed, equivalent treating reed structure by mass-spring mode, and calculating series contact forces by spring-damp model. Obtained dynamic reaction characteristics include contact forces between contacts, contact forces on armature iron and speed or displacement of every component. The effectiveness and accuracy of the calculation model is verified by simulation and experiments. Furthermore, the calculation results show the reduction of reed rigidity is an effective way to reduce contact bounces, and reducing speed or increasing free travel can reduce secondary bounces.
