Research of Voltage Equalization Technology of Series-Connected Ultracapacitor-Strings

Abstract:The ultracapacitor is a novel efficient energy storage device. The voltage of single ultracapacitor is very low, so the ultracapacitors should be connected in series when they are used in the application for EV. Therefore, the voltage of each single unit needs maintain the consistency in order to ensure the safety and efficiency. The voltage equalization techniques of ultracapacitor are investigated in this paper at first, then an improved “flying-capacitor” technology with power switching network and single high capacity electrolytic-capacitor is proposed for the equalization of ultracapacitors. The proposed voltage equalization technologies are validated by both the simulation and the experiments.
