Abstract:A novel multilevel inverter based on partial-charging of the DC capacitor is proposed in this paper. By using the partial-charging circuits for the DC capacitor, the voltage is boosted in the DC link, which in turn generates the multilevel AC output voltage with the cooperation of an inverter circuit and its control strategy. Compared to the traditional multilevel inverters, the proposed multilevel inverter offers multiple voltage stairs more flexibly with less power devices. Meanwhile, the THD of the output voltage is significantly reduced. Both simulation and experiment results are given to verify the validity of the proposed multilevel inverter, and confirm its good operating performance.
