Abstract:Battery energy storage system (BESS) in microgrids can not only be used to remain power balance of micro-grids, but also to suppress harmonic currents injected by nonlinear loads and harmonic voltages penetrated from distribution network. In order to make the best of redundant capacity of BESS and improve power quality of micro-grids, a multi-function control strategy of BESS is presented in this paper. First of all, the basic structure of main circuit and control command signal generation are introduced, and then a micro-grid model which consists of two type microsources, two kind loads and two branches is constructed with Matlab/Simulink. Finally, in the micro-grid model simulations are eventually performed for the multi-function control strategy. The results show that the battery energy storage system with this control strategy can realize the power balance, as well as improve the power quality of micro-grids magnificently.
