Abstract This paper proposes a model predictive power control strategy based on a dynamic model and analysis of the power distribution, considering the effects of magnetic saturation of the brushless doubly-fed induction generator (BDFIG). This strategy can realize accurate power control, so as to assure the quality of control winding current and reduce the switching frequency by estimating the magnetic inductance based on the saturation effect and correcting the inductance parameters input to the controller each period. Simulation and experiments were conducted on the BDFIG control system to identify the factors influencing the saturation effect, and validate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.
