Investigation of Frequency Characteristics and Effect on Winding Equivalent Resistance of Circulating Current in Medium-Frequency Transformer |

Abstract The primary-series secondary-parallel (PSSP) structure is widely applied in power transformer to optimize the current density of secondary winding. When the operating frequency of PSSP transformer is set above to be medium frequency, the circulating current often occurs in the parallel secondary windings. A coupling analytical model is developed to analyze the circulating current. The corner frequency is used to characterize the extreme point of the circulating current proportional coefficient. Then, the investigation on the effects of asymmetric coupling and resistance on equivalent winding resistance is presented. The accuracy of developed analytical model and corner-frequency formulas for the corner frequency is validated by measured results.
