Research on Control Strategy for Maximum Power Transmission in Doubly-Fed Hybrid DC System

Abstract  Currently, the mixed multi-feed pattern of LCC-HVDC and VSC-HVDC initially forms the load center of China Southern Power Grid and East China Power Grid. With the increase of DC feed capacity, DC hybrid feed system will become the normal state of China’s future receiving-end grid. This paper aims to explore the coupling principle of LCC and VSC, and to further research the strategy of the maximum transmission power in doubly-fed system. In this paper, the mathematical model of doubly-fed system was established at first. Furthermore, considering the limitation of equipment capacity and the stability constraints of AC and DC systems, the method for solving the maximum transmission power was proposed when changing the short circuit capacity in the AC network. Then, combined with the power grid operation control requirements, a control strategy for off-line calculation of control strategy table by on-line identification of grid equivalent impedance was presented. Consequently, the AC system could adjust the DC transmission control mode adaptively after an accident, so as to achieve the maximum transferable power of the current working condition. Finally, the doubly-fed system and control strategy were verified based on PSCAD/EMTDC.
