Abstract  In view of the large compensation capacity and huge cost of the railway power conditioner, a hybrid compensation system composed of railway static power conditioner (RPC) and inductively filtered rectifier transformer (IFRT) is proposed. The secondary winding of the IFRT can filter the specific order harmonic current of the supply arm at low voltage side while compensating reactive power. Therefore, the capacity of the active system is greatly reduced. Firstly, based on the system topology, the working principle of the asymmetrical connection balance transformer-based hybrid power quality control system (ACBT-HPQCS) is analyzed in detail. Then, the design scheme of the filter branch is given after analyzing the measured load data of a traction substation. Moreover, the damp injection passive control method is used to control the converter. Finally, the simulation and experimental results show that ACBT-HPQCS provides good power quality management while significantly reducing the capacity of the active system.
