Abstract  In this paper, a control strategy is proposed for the matrix isolated bi-directional AC/DC converter, including the modulation strategy of front-end matrix converter circuit and back-end full-bridge circuit, and the commutation method for the bi-directional switch of matrix converter. Based on the double-line voltage modulation theory, the modulation of front-end matrix transformation circuit rebuilds the sector repartition, and adjusts and optimizes the option of switching state to satisfy the simplified commutation demand. The back-end full-bridge circuit is controlled by adjusting pulse width according to the polarity of the matrix converter circuit modulation, and the bi-directional switch uses a two-step switching method based on the relative size of AC voltage. The simulation and experimental results show that the grid current is sinusoidal, the power factor is close to 1, and the output voltage/current are constant in rectifier and inverter modes. Therefore, the proposed strategy in this paper can realize the bidirectional energy conversion of the converter, and has excellent input and output performance.
