Abstract According to the characteristics of single side information acquisition in a single power distribution network and the problem that there is a certain delay when intelligence center process large amounts of information by serial processing in centralized structure, a new selective fast supplementary protection of distribution network based on cutset current is proposed. The protection uses synchronous current to carry out fault searching, which relays on intelligence center. When the intelligence center receives all information simultaneously in a certain time frame, differential protection based on cutting-current and dichotomy is used to search fault line quickly. According to the results, intelligence center issues the remote tripping command to the breaker of the fault line and the blocking command to the protection of the possible malfunction. Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the protection designed can not only determine the fault line quickly and accurately, but also improve the performance of the traditional stage type current protection to satisfy four basic requirements (reliability, selectivity, speed and sensitivity).
