Abstract Large-scale integration of intermittent power generation has caused grid frequency problems,bringing an urgent research need for introducing battery energy storage system(BESS) into the auxiliary frequency regulation field.A capacity allocation method of BESS in primary frequency regulation is proposed considering its technical-economic model.The universal way to allocate the power and capacity of BESS is introduced;through analyzing the cost and benefits of BESS in frequency regulation process,based on the life cycle cost(LCC) theory,using the net present value (NPV) method,and integrated with a BESS simulation model,the technical-economic model of BESS in primary frequency regulation is constructed;a charge-discharge strategy of BESS to participate in primary frequency regulation are designed,and with the charge-discharge strategy,considering the composite load affected by volatile wind power,starting from the corresponding fluctuation characteristics of grid frequency signals,and under the constraints of the operation requirements of grid frequency regulation and BESS,capacity allocation schemes of BESS are obtained with the optimal frequency regulation performance,the optimal economic benefits and the comprehensive optimum of both,respectively.Results prove the rationality and effectiveness of this method.The study helps propel the demonstration and engineering application of BESS in the auxiliary frequency regulation field.
