Abstract Traditional research on form-finding of transmission line is aimed at single-span lines,while little has been done for multi-spans.For this reason,this paper takes a strain section for example.A finite element integral model of the multi-span transmission line is established in ANSYS,fully considering the interplay between each span transmission line and insulator strings.Combined with the actual line,the initial configuration under the self-weight load is presented,and the shape change of the conductor is simulated,under uniform ice-coating of every span and ice-shedding of different spans.The study suggests that the conductor sag increases significantly and the insulator string offsets seriously under the condition of ice-shedding of different spans.And a reasonable explanation for the inevitability of the discharge tripping accident of the actual line is provided accordingly.The integral model method proposed in this paper can be used for numerical simulation of overhead conductors with icing and ice-shedding,in order to identify the tripping transmission lines attributed to ice-shedding,response in time,and prevent troubles in advance.
