Abstract  In view of the motor drive for the performance test and examination requirement, the power electronic load simulation system which can simulate ac motor port features is proposed to replace traditional drive platform used in motor power testing. The mathematical model of asynchronous motor and synchronous motor are established respectively, which can be solved using Adams algorithm to obtain the port current state. In view of the motor dynamic changes, the current waveform contains transition components which are not repetitive. So PI controller is used to control the power converter input current tracking the instruction current accurately, making the converter have the same port characteristics as the actual motor. No-load starting of asynchronous motor, sudden loading and the working condition with vector closed-loop control of synchronous motor are simulated. Simulation and experimental results show that the load simulation system can simulate ac motor port characteristics flexibly and efficiently, so as to prove the validity of proposed scheme.
