Abstract In this paper, a long plate-shaped magnetoelectric laminate based on magnetostrictive material Terfenol-D and piezoelectric material PZT is designed and developed, using for AC electric current measurement. The structure of this laminate has the advantage of no-circuit-connection, which makes it convenient to install and maintain. A series of experiments are made to test the relationship between the output voltage and the input electric current and its frequency. In the experiments an electric current sensitivity of 0.401mV/mA is observed. The laminate is able to hold a stable output voltage over a current range of mA~A and a frequency range of 30Hz~1kHz. This electric current sensor based on long plate-shaped magnetoelectric laminate has great potential of further research and application.
