Adaptive Global Fast Terminal Sliding Mode Control for HVDC in AC-DC Parallel Transmission System

Abstract  In this paper, a new kind of nonlinear additive controller for high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system using adaptive global terminal sliding mode control method is designed in AC-DC parallel transmission system with unknown damping coefficients and estimate them dynamically to improve system stability. The transmission power is improved by rapidly adjusting the transmission power of DC side to adjust the stability of the whole system. The controller designed in this paper has both advantages of linear sliding mode and nonlinear sliding mode, which can make AC-DC system converge quickly and accurately to the equilibrium state. The influence of uncertain small disturbance with unknown upper bond and three phase short-circuit fault have also been taken into account, values of unknown upper bound and unknown parameters are estimated in real time respectively. Compared with the adaptive backstepping sliding mode controller, the simulation results show that the controller designed in this paper has smaller overshoot, shorter control response time, superior estimation performance and stronger robustness. In a word, It can improve the stability of the system more effectively.
